Pick Up the Beats

Once during a morning service, the monks were all chanting with their best efforts. The Master suddenly walked in, hands in back, going back and forth with eyes looking on the ground. The monk on duty hurriedly walked over and asked, "Master, are you searching for something?" Master said, "The beats! Haven't you seen? The beats are all over the floor! Go bring a broom!"

After the service, the monks in charge of the instruments knelt in front of the Buddha in repentance.
